Technical Assistance Program

Empowering Farmers and Landowners with Conservation Expertise

The Southern Guam Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is dedicated to supporting Guam’s agricultural producers, ranchers, and landowners through expert technical assistance. Our program connects local producers with the knowledge, resources, and hands-on support they need to implement sustainable conservation practices tailored to Guam’s unique ecosystems.

How We Support You

Our Technical Assistance Program provides personalized guidance and services to help you achieve your conservation and agricultural goals:

  • Conservation Planning: We work closely with you to develop conservation plans that address soil health, water quality, pest management, and more, ensuring sustainable and productive land use.
  • USDA Program Support: Receive expert guidance on applying for federal programs like EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program) and CSP (Conservation Stewardship Program).
  • On-the-Ground Assistance: Our team is here to support you every step of the way, from project planning and implementation to long-term monitoring and maintenance.

Services Offered

Through our Technical Assistance Program, you can access a range of services, including:

  • Soil Sampling: Free soil tests for Southern SWCD members, analyzed through the UOG Soil Lab, with tailored recommendations provided by UOG Cooperative Extension & Outreach (CEO).
  • Conservation Practices Implementation: Guidance on practices such as cover cropping, agroforestry, and water conservation to improve productivity and sustainability.
  • Grant Application Assistance: Support in preparing and submitting applications for USDA programs and other funding opportunities.
  • GIS Mapping and Land Analysis: Tools to help you assess your land’s potential and plan for long-term conservation efforts.

Success Stories

  • Through the Technical Assistance Program, farmers and landowners have transformed their operations:
  • A local farmer improved crop yields by adopting no-till farming techniques and installing a drip irrigation system with our guidance.
  • A rancher protected their pastureland by implementing erosion control measures funded through EQIP.
  • A landowner restored native vegetation on degraded land, contributing to biodiversity and ecological health.
